Treat Razor Bumps at Home

We’ve all had them and we all hate them. Razor bumps. Caused by hair follicles trapped under the skin, razor bumps usually resolve on their own, but the quicker we can get those invaders from stealing the shine from our fresh lineup, the better. At Legends Barbershop in Conyers, GA we’ve learned a few tips and tricks to help you speed up the process of getting back to feeling so fresh and so clean. 1. Avoid picking or squeezing razor bumps. Please don’t do this. The barbers at Legends Barbershop have seen their fair share of clients who’ve picked at razor bumps and made their situation 10 times worse. 2. Keep razor bumps clean and try not to touch them at all. If your razor bumps are irritated, a saltwater solution can be soothing. Just place a clean washcloth in a cup of warm water with a teaspoon of salt and apply the washcloth to the razor bumps. 3. If you can see the ingrown hair near the surface of the skin, you can try to release it using a needle or tweezers. Clean the skin well first and sterilize the needle or tweezers with alcohol. Use your tweezers to remove the hair, making sure to pluck as close to its roots as possible. Once the hair is removed, disinfect the area with an alcohol-free toner. 4. Now, if you trust nothing else, trust Legends Barbershop on this: don’t try to free the hair if you can’t see it easily. You will make the razor bump worse by piercing the skin. Instead, each day you can apply a warm press to the razor bumps in order to soothe and soften the skin and encourage the hair to release itself.

5. Skincare products that contain salicylic acid or glycolic acid have been said to help the razor bumps heal faster. If it works fast, Legends Barbershop loves it! These acids clear out dead skin cells and encourage the ingrown hair to make its way back to the surface of the skin. 6. Once the ingrown hair is removed and you’re on your way to healing, don’t give yourself a new set of problems. Let the wound heal for a day or two before you book your next appointment with us at Legends Barbershop in Conyes, GA. We always look forward to seeing you, but trust us, it’s best to wait. There you have it. We hope that you won’t have to deal with this problem too much, but with razor bumps being more common among men with tightly curled hair, it’s not a matter of ‘if’ you’ll get them, but ‘when’ you’ll get them. But no worries, just follow these tips to get your swag back with the quickness. - Legends Barbershop, Conyers GA
